Mike Klein is the current Undersheriff of Marquette County, but, before that, he’s a loving husband to Ami and father of Kolton and Kendra.
Undersheriff Klein has been a member of law enforcement community since joining the United States Navy in 1982 as a Hull Maintenance Technician and Master at Arms. He enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve in 1987 and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in 1990. He was the Command Master at Arms then Command Chief/Senior Enlisted Advisor for ten years at the Naval Reserve Centers in Calumet and Marquette/Gwinn. Undersheriff Klein has also been a Road Patrol Officer for the Village of Lake Linden, then the City of Ishpeming for three years until he was hired in 1994 as a Road Patrol Officer, then being promoted to Corporal then Sergeant as the night shift supervisor for Northern Michigan University Public Safety and Police Services Department and has served there until being appointed Undersheriff of Marquette County in April 2015. Klein is a certified Emergency Medical Technician (E.M.T.) and American Heart Association C.P.R. Instructor and has instructed classes in First Aid/C.P.R. along with report writing, drunk driving (O.W.I.) law and arson investigation. He is a certified State of Michigan Firefighter I & II and was a volunteer Fireman/E.M.T. Lieutenant with the Negaunee Township Fire Department from 2002-2009. Klein is an Eagle Scout and an Assistant Scout Master for Troops #309 in Marquette and #346 in Negaunee. He is also a United States Special Deputy Marshal for the Western District of Michigan since 2002.
Undersheriff Klein earned an Associate degree in Applied Science from Northern Michigan University, an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement (2007), a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice minoring in Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration and recently earned his Master of Science Degree in Police Administration in December 2013 and is an Adjunct Instructor for the Northern Michigan University Criminal Justice Department.
